New Delhi, Jan 30: World's largest computer maker Dell today said it
would set up a manufacturing facility in India. "We
have concluded that time is right to consider a manufacturing site in
India... we are looking for a location," Dell Chief Executive Officer
Kevin Rollins said here today. Dell presently employs 10,000 people at its support and product development centres in India. "Time
is ripe for second phase of our expansion in India. We are talking to
Federal (Centre) government and state governments as to where is the
best place to set up a manufacturing site," Rollins said. Dell has seven manufacturing plants all over the world and the India unit would be the eighth plant He
said the manufacturing site would be selected on the basis of how good
the logistics were in an area, able work force and cooperation the
company can get from the local government. The manufacturing unit of Dell in India would cater to the local market to start with.  January 04 Google PCsChristmas is near and you can expect a cool gift from Santa (Google) this time. Google is planning to launch PCs for markets in India and China. According to the report by India’s leading newspaper, Hindustan Times, (Report not available online) Google will be launching the PCs with California based Wyse technology.
The PCs won’t have CPU; they will be bundled with Keyboard, Mouse and Monitor. The PC will connect to the hosted system on their server and the remote OS will manage storage and functioning of the PC. This will keep PC away from virus and also provide secure solution for storage of the user data.
The PC will run on software created by Google; hardware and other technicalities will be managed by Wyse technology.
The PCs will be available for Rs. 9,000 (INR) i.e. approximately $200

 December 31 Google Talk targeted in patent lawsuitThe fledging Google instant messaging service known as Google Talk has come under fire from a Delaware corporation that claims that Google is infringing on two of its patents. Rates Technology Inc. claims that Google has violated their patents on methodologies relating to reducing the cost of calls placed over long distance. In a statement yesterday Google said, "We believe the lawsuit is without merit and we will defend against it vigorously."
Google, the Internet search engine, has been accused in a lawsuit of infringing a patent-licensing company's patents with its free Internet telephone system.
The plaintiff, Rates Technology, contends that Google Talk, a voice-over-Internet service, infringes patents issued in 1995 and 1996. One is for a device for routing telephone calls along "a least-cost route," and the other is for a system to update a database that stores billing rates so cheaper calls can be made.
The complaint says Google has been infringing the patent "within the past six years."
Rates Technology filed the suit in Federal District Court in Central Islip, N.Y., on Oct. 5. The suit was reported yesterday by The New York Post.
"R.T.I. has discussed with and given Google notice of its infringement, and has tried to resolve this matter without litigation, but Google has refused to do so," the complaint says. "Thus, Google has forced R.T.I. to file this lawsuit."
A conference on the case is set for Feb. 3, according to court records.
Lynn Fox, a spokeswoman for Google, did not immediately return calls seeking comment.
